FESTIVAL: California Desert Nature Festival
Friday thru Sunday, April 11--13, 2008
10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Attention nature lovers! Look for Caliso Learning at the upcoming California Desert Nature Festival, April 2008. Participate in field trips, seminars, workshops, and hikes that highlight nature and the Coachella Valley. You are sure to enjoy scheduled programs with special guest presenters, performances, as well as shopping in the festival bazaar! Great for all, whether you are a serious nature enthusiasts or a casual explorer. Families and nature lovers of all ages and interests will delight in the many experiences that await you. While you're there, please stop by and say hello while participating in these Caliso programs:
Friday, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Fun for all ages! How does camouflage work? How do the same properties help you identify things that do not belong on a nature
trail? Our Trail Spy activity invites you to test your observational skills on our “un-nature” trail inspired by Joseph Cornell’s, Sharing Nature With Children.
This special trail has several man-made objects placed throughout—all in full view—some blend in, some do not! How many objects will you find that do not
belong on a nature trail? Challenges both
young and old! See registration booth for location.
Saturday, 9 a.m. to Noon, ongoing activity. Visit our booth in the Kid's Habitat to make a "rock solid" Planet Promise--a promise to the planet written on a
rock that you take home as a special reminder of your day, and your promise to the earth. You can also create "Rocku" poetry (left for others to read) by
arranging pre-made pebbles in honor of our planet's beauty.
Sunday, 9 a.m. to Noon, ongoing activity. Visit our booth in the Kid's Habitat to participate in Camp Tortoise and discover the desert tortoise up close:
how it lives, what it likes to eat, and how it survives in the desert. Learn how to recognize tortoise activity in the wild and why this ancient survivor needs our
protection today. Compare a
tortoise "fingerprint" with your own. A live desert tortoise will be
there for you to meet!

We
are very happy to be invited back to participate again this year. The Hi-Desert
Nature Museum's Earth fair is a global message set in an intimate,
grass-roots feel. This year they celebrate, “the diversity of life on earth with a day of
activities that will inform, educate, and entertain visitors. Local experts will
be on hand to provide demonstrations for turning waste into black gold for your
garden, growing your own food, and recycling. This family-oriented event
includes live animal presentations, gardening demonstrations, kids activities,
and live international music. There will also be a variety of vendor booths
featuring local artists and environmental education resources.” Be
sure to stop by and visit our Caliso Learning booth again this year...you just
might be seeing green!
